AUSTRIA: mozartkugeln

Today my post is very much into culture, and this is not causality. This week I have been in Salzburg for a meeting, and as every time I land in this country in a second I felt like jumping back in history. Who has not ever singed “Doe, a deer a female deer, Ray, a drop of golden sun, Me, a name I call myself, Far, a long, long way to run…”? Probably one of the most famous soundtracks ever! A soundtracks of a film where music is the protagonist, a movie that was filmed in Salzburg where music is the heart of the country, the place where the genius Amadeus Mozart was born.
But Austria is a country of Chocolate as well and Vienna is to Sachertorte what Salzburg is for Mozartkugeln.  Mozartkugeln, a composition of marzipan, nougat cream and bittersweet chocolate, which I especially like, was discovered by me the first time I went to Austria. It is incredibly distributed all around with perfect branding. I’m sure that no one leaves the country without buying one of the thousand different propositions offered by this product. Mirabell is the Kraft brand that owns this super successful product that can be a perfect case study of how to become a traditional product into a prestigious souvenir known all around the world.
Something very similar to what Nestle has done with “bacio” the typical “bonbon” in the north of Italy originally from in Peruggia (Umbria).
