As you
might know I recently moved to Italy. I have always loved this country. I love
it’s art, it’s culture, its food. I already felt in love with it when started “art history” at school, I had a
wonderful teacher that made us love the Italian architecture, it’s churches,
paints, cupulas… Then I discovered Tuscany
and Rome traveling with my parents, incredible landscape and better food. Mmmm…
pizza, pasta, ice creams…!!! But it has not been until this last year, that I
have been leaving here that I had not the chance to catch up about coffee. I
admit I have become a coffee “dependent” since I move here. Coffee in Italy is
not the same as in Spain, Espresso, macchiato, lungo, ristretto, cappuccino,
decaffeinato… it’s not that they are picky, is really a different moment for
each kind of coffee, but you can’t
understand it if you don’t live in Italy. There
are thousands of “bar e tabacchi”
shops in all Italy and it is a very big
business.
And a very
big business creats always other big business if you find the opportunity. Once
you had a coffee normally you don’t want other people to understand that you
just had one. I was impressed on the huge distribution of chewingums and other
candies on this kind of shops. And it’s right! Each time you have a coffee its
perfect if you can have a chewingum that cleans your breath. And here a big
business opportunity that a company like pvm took and enlarged incredibly it’s
sales with more distribution and of course more consumption moments.
I want to add as well some pictures of the first Alber Heijn in The Netherlands since I discovered last weekend in Zandaam it's first shop. And it has as well started as a coffe shop and it developed so much that it is now the first chain in the local market .
